Over tens of thousands of years, First Nations peoples and communities have developed and harnessed knowledge and practices that foster the wellbeing of people and place. This is a holistic conception of wellbeing which is whole-of-life and whole-of-time. One in which the wellbeing of the individual cannot be disconnected from the wellbeing of family, community, the earth, one's ancestors, and future generations. These interconnected domains of wellbeing are recognised as a source of strength and resilience for First Nations communities.

Indigenous ways of knowing have informed the conceptualisation, development, and continued refinement of the Huber Social Wellbeing Measurement Framework. To enable meaningful and culturally relevant measurement, Huber Social recognises the critical contribution of First Nations peoples and communities throughout the measurement process as key principles for self-determination, cultural safety, and data sovereignty.
